Mental Endurance Drill - 3

Colin Mullan

Car Racing

Instructions

This is going to be challenging! This drill is all about building your consistency across long runs, and strengthening your focus. It can be much harder to stay focused on the simulator than driving in real life due to the extra focus on fewer of your senses. The goal here is keeping laps within half a second of each other. Start slower, and work on bridging the gap between flat out, peak times, and consistent, replicable laps. A few things that will help build consistency include: Easy-to-identify brake markers, slow point references, and turn in references.

Focus areas

Primary

Focus on your reference points

Secondary

Use your breathe and refocus triggers to regain focus if you lose it

Colin Mullan

2020 GT4 America Champion

Car Racing

I’ve been racing nearly my entire life, with experience in everything from open-wheel racing, touring cars, to GT and prototypes. In 2020 I won a GT4 America Championship driving with Andretti Autosport, and have been recognized as one of the most winning drivers in GT4 racing in the US. My goal as an instructor is to teach you the “how and why” to improve as a driver. It’s easy to tell you what to do to be faster, but becoming a better driver on track takes more than that.
