Low Horsepower Throttle Delay

Car Racing
Instructions
For this drill, choose any low-horsepower car (Formula Vee, Mazda MX5, Toyota GR86, etc.). Low HP cars are all about momentum, we want to roll as much speed as we can through the corners. To go along with this, let’s practice delaying our throttle application until just after the apex. Do not get to throttle early! Our goal is to bring up the entry speed to match where you apply throttle. Start with your proper throttle application point, and slowly build up speed each lap. Pick a track you are comfortable with.

About the coach
I’ve been racing nearly my entire life, with experience in everything from open-wheel racing, touring cars, to GT and prototypes. In 2020 I won a GT4 America Championship driving with Andretti Autosport, and have been recognized as one of the most winning drivers in GT4 racing in the US. My goal as an instructor is to teach you the “how and why” to improve as a driver. It’s easy to tell you what to do to be faster, but becoming a better driver on track takes more than that.
